Hi.
Avast Version 8.0.1489
The download the update the definitions list stops at ´File saving: servers.def.vpx´ until the message ´connection is broken´.
On other mainboard with single core CPU it still worked.
No more now a dual core CPU.
Despite uninstall and new install.
Newer versions - still for XP - I do not like, because of to less possible to set by myself. Despite this old version has some too much to set manual.
Thanks the interesst.
Sorry, very sorry, the Captcha not to read … and nothing to hear …
Virus definition support for Avast versions 8, 9 and 10 have ceased.
You have posted in the Avast One for Windows sub forum and with Avast 8.0.1489 you couldn’t have Avast One installed.
You should have posted in this sub-forum https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0
You would have seen this topic at the top of the list - [EOL] Virus definition updates for Avast version 9/10/11 end in summer 2023. (EOL = End Of Life) - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=324295.0
Oh no, new captcha and the text is gone. W O U H. How EVIL.
(Now it weirdly stays …)
Posted at Avast One: very sorry:
The forum is not very easy to find the different topics.
Myself I had to search with the search function.
And no note - no notification - about Your reply.
And this Captchas: very unhandable.
So, no more Avast for XP … OK.
Oh sorry, I have to see me just rejected.
And have to expect this again once more …
So, and sorry, a further good reason to leave Windows and come to Linux.
If 18.8 does slow XP too much, then I will perhaps go back to 8.0.1489, and then WITHOUT the definitions-update, sadnessly. If not able to find an alternative. So what.
The captchas are an anti-spam measure (though it doesn’t seem to stop them), but it is only there for the first 3 posts.
I don’t know if spammers would be using some sort of screen reader to decipher/interpret the captcha screen.
As I said - Virus definition support for Avast versions 8, 9 and 10 have ceased.
XP is still supported, but no further than Avast program version 18.8, but is still supported for virus definition updates.
No windows program version is supported for Virus definitions, if still using Avast program version 8, 9 or 10
Should you jump to Linux, well there is no Avast program for regular users, only for business users
I am really stopped, from experiences trying newer Avast versions, to try there more, even that 18.8 now.
My experiences:
As well as good no settings to do anymore oneself, so my reminding, and slowing down all extremly, as last in Windows 10. Despite of Win Defender de-activated.
I just still want to say, that it is so said, that it isn´t possible, to have the opportunity, to download the definition´s list manually …, for older versions.
I’m an Avast User not Avast Team member, but as far as I’m aware there is no longer a manual download for the full virus database.
More so for older unsupported versions. It took a lot to maintain even the on-line virus definitions support for old versions, so to do this for off-line and would mean multiple versions of off-line update support.
The only problem being this topic was in relation to Avast 8 from the initial post and the OP is reluctant to update to later ‘supported’ version of Avast
Avast Version 8.0.1489
The download the update the definitions list stops at ´File saving: servers.def.vpx´ until the message ´connection is broken´.
Avast in-itself doesn’t retain old versions for download - Unless you can find Avast version 9 as a location like filehippo.com and they don’t go that far back.
This direct link only says the 223 MB size. But not to recognize, for which Avast version(s). (Feals - from this size - as the newest.)
The link You mentioned - in a last comment here - before, listedstill with for 8 to 11 (and other - newer - more), has a size of 125 MB. Which I downloaded, just for to test, for version 8.0.1489. (But still have to do. With some preparation´s works still.)
