I would suggest that you download what is called an ‘offline’ installer. This can be downloaded and saved to execute later.
This means you aren’t on-line active whilst installing the program. There should also be no interference/conflict from your current antivirus solution (which you didn’t state ?).
This allow to uninstall your existing antivirus solution (?) and install Avast by running that saved installation file. That said if you are only using Windows Defender then Windows should disable that when you install another 3rd party antivirus.
Note this isn’t the very latest version which is 24.10, but downloading this file always downloads the latest version.
