Avast opens in taskbar every two weeks

I’ve posted this in this topic, but that’s set to resolved, when it very much isn’t. So I’m raising this issue again…

Every two weeks on the dot, for the last months now, Avast Free opens up in my taskbar, with a blue circle and a ‘i’ in it. When I click it, the main Avast GUI opens, but there’s no alert or anything except the upsell notifications that are always accumulating.

I have automatic definition updates enabled, but automatic program updates are disabled. So that shouldn’t be it.

This is what I see in the taskbar:

avast_taskbar

If it wants something, what is it? And if it doesn’t, then it shouldn’t keep popping up like this, and it needs to get fixed.

I’m not seeing that, yes I get the odd notification but not a regular basis every two weeks on the dot.

I got one today, but that was after a system restart.

I think that the other topic, for the original poster has been resolved since they found out what it was causing it. Not as in your case every two weeks out of the blue.

Im using premium so maybe a slightly different layout but every time i get the dark blue dot (not the same as yours with an “i” in it) its the usual culprits of spam advertising to warn you of critical junk, ip visable (no its not as using vpn), outdated apps etc showing in notifications but mine are random and not exactly 2 weeks apart.

Only one week, but Avast just popped up again. This time it apparently crashed and I have to reboot. WTF is going on?

Again: I didn’t open Avast. It just popped up front and center for no reason.

Also: the screen says I’m still protected, even after the crash, but my system tray says I’m very much unprotected. Great!

After the reboot, Avast has once again placed the Avast icon on my desktop without my consent. By the way; this would indicate an install of a program update, which I have set to manual! Or is this some repair function?

Program version: 25.8.10387g (build 25.8.10387.0)

UI version: 1.0.846

Defs: 250924-6

Looks like you still have 25.8. If there was a program update it would be 25.9 now.
I manually update and currently still have 25.8 and the same UI version as you.
But could be an emergency or streamed update, which would not show as a version change.

It did it again today. Including the blue circle with white ‘i’ in it. That’s once more two weeks.

I can only assume (dangerous) as you didn’t mention it.

But one of the settings in the Smart Scan is to run every two weeks. I only mention it given the regularity you is is every two weeks.

Smart Scan is set to manual. The GUI also doesn’t display a result of a scan. When I open it from the taskbar there is nothing special showing.

Very strange that it is a two week cycle, which is why I was thinking possibly smart scan (aka sales pitch).

I’m just not seeing it, the only time I see the UI come up is after an infrequent system restart.

That said I still hanging back on Avast Free 25.5, there has been too many bugs, hiccups in recent program updates and to few replies from Avast on fixes. I may possibly dive into 25.10.xxxx which shouldn’t be too far away.

And again at two weeks. Now I’m on 25.9 and it still happens! This time without the blue circle.

This is the preview window when hovering over the unopened taskbar button. It shows the Avast GUI without text. When I open it, it takes a second and then opens the GUI with text. Perhaps that is relevant.

After opening the preview also shows the text. But the first time it doesn’t.

Guess what? It happened again, exactly two weeks later. With the blue circle, and the incomplete preview as shown above.

I think this is Avast now nagging us to do a Smart Scan, saying we have not done one for so many days. The mobile app has done this for a long time. It is really intrusive and puts you off using Avast.

There is no message. Just the program that opens on the task bar and no alert when I open it. Smart Scan is set to manual.

To exactly no one’s surprise, it happened again. With the blue circle and everything. This is with 25.10.

So annoying!

Two weeks later, same thing. Avast on task bar + blue circle.
