Tired without rebooting and the window does not reopen for now, btw yesterday i fixed this problem by disabling the web shield as explained the by @jurieb
Disabling web shield doesn’t stop it. I have it disabled and and Avast still pops up. @alexgauda
@prokopes_ Some of these suggestions might work for some people but not everyone.
Seems to be fixed on my end, haven’t had a pop-up today… The last 24hrs the avast window was constantly on
@prokopes_ just to mention, please be aware its not actually a pop up thats coming up, its the whole control window that opens. Also, please you need to know this is also happening on AVG which I know is a reskin of Avast with same engine and patterns, will the fix you are working on be rolled out for AVG too please?
It might be an combination of factors causing the issue, like what browser and addons in browser you’re using. Which would explain why workarounds work for some and not for others. I suspect it’s probably an interaction with other software triggering it.
For the record I’m using Brave Browser, with Dark reader, Norpass, ublock origin, and free download manager extensions.
For me, the problem is still on going.
I’m using Chrome, with uBlock Origin, Fireshot and Country Flags&IP Whois.
Also I don’t think that the popup notifications are the main problem, mine is set to Silent mode, and still the whole UI pops up and takes focus. This UI screen appears from time to time, and even if I minimalize it, after few minutes it appears again on the center of the screen.
You’re right,
Avast isn’t the first and only software to encounter problems due to external factors (OS, browsers, add-ons, third-party software, etc.), and it’s sometimes difficult for developers to reproduce the problem and test it before the official release.
As I said above, I currently use Premium on three devices (W7 + 2x W10) and none of them have encountered the problem.
That’s why I tried to give you as much information as possible so that your configuration matches mine.
However, too many of you are reporting the problem for avast not to look into it… and that’s what they’re doing, right?
Do you know many developers who fix a bug in less than 24 hours? I don’t!
Be patient, especially since some people are starting to say that it seems to be resolving itself.
Can you try ignoring the notifications (click on the cross as shown in my screenshot) and tell me if:
1-the notification (small red “1”) disappears?
2-avast reopens a few minutes later with the same notification?
NB: there may be 5 notifications for 5 different paid products, so you will probably need to ignore all 5 before you can see if the problem disappears.
Edit:Strange thing that has nothing to do with the problem, but before posting this message, I had two notifications. I changed the UI language (French to English) without ignoring the notifications.
Only one was displayed (the one in the screenshot).
I just switched back to French, and the second notification disappeared too without ignoring it first.
As a software developer, I don’t agree with this. The issue won’t be resolving by itself. The UI is triggered by a function that, probably, was introduced by mistake in one of the new tools, I suspect to be added to the Web Guard.
It’s not related to the notification panel, mine are already ignored. As told earlier, it’s probably an UI function added to one of the new tools.
Related to this, I would say that I do know some. Some of the servers from my work place were affected by the Crowdstrike issue that took place last year, and the issue was fixed in a couple of hours, not days. So yes, there are devs that can fix bugs in less than 24 hours, but of course, it depends on the priority of the issue. This one is not a top priority, since the antivirus is not affected, the issue is just with the UI.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Given your screenshot, it is complaining that you have Silent Mode turned on.
So the logical test would be to Turn Silent Mode off and Switch to Limited Mode (as suggested) or Smart Mode and report your findings.
Exactly.
As a Senior Software Engineer and Leader w 35+ years experience, I can confirm being a part of and seeing thousands of defects and issues solved in less than 24 hours. Hell, even less than an hour recently. Proper Automation, tooling, CI/CD, etc and you can release, see an issue, fix re-release quickly.
The issue isn’t time. The issue is they updated their software with the Scam Guard AI crap, probably used AI to “vibe” code for all we know, and introduced a very annoying defect they don’t know how to resolve. Also agree it probably isn’t high priority enough for them to resolve it immediately or they just don’t have a fix.
My policy in a case like this is to make customers whole by immediately rolling back the offending check-in that caused this, then sort it out, but I assume the way Avast software work that is just not an option. I do know it started after my update with Scam Guard and nothing outside of disabling everything has solved it for me. I just renewed last week, and now I regret it. Looking for other options. Not going to let sunk cost fallacy keep me on this intrusive program.
As an (excellent) developer, you will surely be able to explain why I (and many other) users are not experiencing the problem, even though we have undergone the same program updates and other VPS… My(DavidR,…) web guard has the same code as yours, and yet…no issue.
You should know that sometimes software issues arise from changes to third-party software code and not from their own code, overnight… I’m thinking in particular of Windows Update or browser updates (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) or extensions.
I’ve done all your recommendations, and the GUI still keeps popping up. I’ve had issues with updates to your product in the past, but nothing like this.
I’m looking for a new product.
It’s not related to silent mode. Does it even with Silent mode turned off.
I suspect it’s the new code from the update interacting with some other software installed and running on the affected system in a way that was not intended. This will be a tough nut to crack for the devs it that is the case.
Ironically, although the incredibly annoying popup says silent mode is on, it does not stop future popups.
When the problem is widespread, when the software in question does not have millions of users, or when the software does not require crucial interoperability, as is the case with security software, I agree, but that is not the case for these three here.
A striking example at the moment with avast: many people report slowdowns with Chrome, which are corrected if they disable avast, so they are also entitled to say that it is avast’s fault.
In fact, this is not certain, because disabling the “QUIC/HTTP3” scan also seems to solve the problem, and this feature has been available in avast for months… Why is the problem occurring now?
A good analyst might also look elsewhere than avast to see if the problem stems from an issue/implementation of the protocol in Chrome.
Although I don’t know for sure, it could be a problem with certain operating systems and their own notifications, which can act as gateways to other notifications such as those from avast.
I’ve disabled Windows notifications. Is that why avast doesn’t open every minute on my computer? I don’t know, but it’s a possibility.
My Windows notifications are disabled as well. still happpens for me (when web guard is enabled)
Could OS be a factor?
I’m on Win 10 still. Is this occuring on Win 11 machines?
Yes, I’m on Win 11, so it’s occuring for it too
