This is the error log I’m getting .( file attached )

Your log is confusing me… too much ‘not okay’ messages…
Did you install any other antivirus before avast? Any other security program that could be interfering?

Hi Tech ,

I just formated my HD and done clean install ( Windows Xp HOME Edition Sp2 ) .
I did not install any other Antivirus or AntiSpywear .

THX

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Dear Tech ,

I DID NOT INSTALL AVAST SO HOW I SUPPOSE TO UNINSTALLL IT … ?

The install failed, but it may have managed to do some of the installation before it failed, so you need to get rid of that failed install. The default location for avast is C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4, check to see if that was created.

If you can’t do it with a regular add remove programs (with is likely because of the failed install) then you use the uninstall utility and continue from step 3 of Tech’s Instructions which includes a link to download the avast Uninstall Utility.

We are trying to help you so the CAPS LOCK key is the loud (shouting) key, yes you might well be frustrated, but we do this in the hope that it might help no other reason.

Sorry for the Cap’s .
i have done all the steps you wort , and still got the same problem .

More staff i have done :

Replace my memory ( RAM ) .
Update my bios ( 661FX-M7 my board) .

Well the windows error 1006 = “The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.” So something would appear to have corrupted the file.

Did you use a download manager to download the file ?
If so try without one.

Try downloading from another trusted location, http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10602417.html?tag=lst-0-1. This link is from the avast.com home page is an alternative download link for the English version of avast Home.

1006 is our internal error.

Try this: run the setup, wait for the error dialogue, do not press anything. Open another explorer window, navigate to avast temp dir a check if it’s full of vpu files.

Because your log says:
08.07.2007 18:43:42 general: Used server: C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp_av_sfx.tm~a02840

That means the name of the temp dir for avast sfx (it’s random)

08.07.2007 18:43:42 file: GetFileWithRetry:DSA_FileVerify(C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\av_pro_core-397.vpu), error: 0x00000000

And this means that av_pro_core-397.vpu was not there or was broken.

Be also sure you’ve got enough space on the drive and you have write rights to the dir.

hi ’

i download it form avast site…and from download.com
