How to apply 9x Dialup to XP:

1.Go to settings, control panel. Administrative Tools, Services Shortcut.
2.Scroll down to Net Logon. Right click Properties, Set to Automatic.
3.Do likewise for Network Connections, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager and
Remote Access Connection Manager.
4.Return to Settings. Select Network Connections. Click Advanced -at the Top- Click Dialup Preferences. -Make sure “Always ask…” and “Disable autodial…” at the bottom are unchecked.

Addendum: This will restore the “dialing” box for Firefox or any other apps, also enable Auto Disconnect for the IE stuff. In other words, just like 9x.

1.Go to Control Panel,Internet Options
2.Connections,Settings,
3.Properties,Options.
4.Under “Dialing Options”,check the first one “Display progress while dialing” and the third one, “Include Windows Logon Domain”.

A Really Small App

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/AReallySmallApp.jpg

It’s a small program that displays Running Tasks, Number of Current Startups, IP address, Uptime, as well as graphs for CPU and Memory utilization.
It can also tell you if network computers are connected to your PC. The program can run in the system tray and hovering the mouse over the tray icon
provides you with a quick summary of the tracked information.

When you hover your mouse over the systray icon, this is what you see:

A right click on the icon reveals the following:

This program is totally free but there is a little advertisement
for what this company sells. ( Only fair considering that we aren’t forced to buy it. )

My New CMD Prompt Window
start > run > type–> cmd > Hit Enter

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/CMD01.jpg

How many of you use the CMD prompt window in Win XP or 2000?
A recent article in Lockergnome prompted me to change that ugly black window
with the white letters.

Clicking on the top left corner of the CMD Window reveals the following menu:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/CMD02.jpg

When you select Properties, you’ll be presented with the following selections:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/CMD04.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/CMD05.jpg

By adjusting the color scheme in the last window, you can drastically change the way the little or large CMD Prompt window looks.

When all the adjustments have been made to your satisfaction, click on OK

and decide if this change effects only the current session or you want to make it more permanent.

Nice tip Bob, a shortcut to the Run pop-up is to press the Windows Key (if your keyboard has on is between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the left of the space bar) + the R key together and the run pop-up is displayed, then just type in your command.

An Indian discovered that nobody can create a FOLDER in Windows named as “con”.

This is something pretty cool…and unbelievable…

At Microsoft the whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn’t answer why this happened!

Try it out yourself…

Thanks David,
That is also one of the tips in this series back when it was still in the Off-Topic Forum:

Spyros
Very intersting and strange. I would really like to know why ???
I’m sure there is a logical answer. Maybe it triggers some internal command?

Solved!

I consider this a worthwhile addition to the context menu especially if you do a lot of things involving graphics.
Enjoy.

Sure Delete v5.1.1

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/SureDelete.jpg

Sometimes “delete” means “kinda sorta delete.”
When you drag a file to the Recycle Bin, you only move it to a new location.
Even when you empty the bin, your files are still retrievable by Undelete utilities.
Sure Delete permanently deletes that data from your drive.
Whether you want to shred sensitive information or free up resources on your hard drive,
this program ensures that it’s done permanently. Sure Delete supports the FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS disk formats.

A download from PCWorld is available from HERE
The file is also available at MySharedFiles

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/RenameMaster01.jpg

Rename Master is a free utility for renaming large groups of files with a few clicks. Anyone that has worked with websites, file archives, or collections of music, videos, or pictures has probably spent way too much time renaming hundreds of files.

Don’t miss the demonstration movie of Rename Master in action. It’s an excellent toutorial and can be found HERE

The program can also be downloaded from MySharedFiles

You’ve some fantastic programs listed here bob3160 . I love “good freeware” and info. Thanks ! ;D
I just found this Audiograbber which I’m playing with .
Have done some recording so far with surprising simplicity.
Next is to test out it’s Mp3 ripping capabilities.
Recording live to Hardrive I make a data file onto CD Rom, then convert .wav to Mp3. Not many free programs I’ve tried can cut it …

Microsoft Internet Explorer is no longer needed for Windows Updates.

You can now use WINDIZUPDATE
This free website allows users of Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3, Netscape 4.0, Mozilla Firebird 0.7, Opera 5, Flock, or K-Meleon 0.9,
to keep their copy of Windows up-to-date.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/WindizUpdate01.jpg

When checking for updates, information needs to be gathered from your computer.
(No personally identifiable information is collected from your computer.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/WindizUpdate02.jpg

My computer is already up-to-date!

There are some Restrictions and Issues.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/WindizUpdate03SI.jpg

There are many Good Reasons for using this website to keep your system up-to-date:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/WindizUpdateGood.jpg

There are also a few Disadvantages.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/I%20Thought/WindizUpdateBad.jpg

In my opinion, the many obvious advantages far outweigh the few disadvantages unless the update is for a
serious security issue.

I tried WINDIZUPDATE using Firefox 1.0.7.0 . My Computer is up-to-date , which I had verified already , the " normal " way
Was a very simple install of the plugin. Advised of 2 driver updates, but opted not to as everything in that area is working fine. Will look into the file versions though, and if they are newer I may install them. I doubt that they are.
Amazing that this is available.
Very interesting Bob ! A slap in the face to Windows Update and Microsoft in general I think, isn’t it ?
