do you use express or custom? , sir.

anyway and then I’m done with that, the website was showing a screenshot of Windows Update interface clearly showing that it was taken on Vista (not even Seven as advertised  ), with a reference to the Control Panel in the address bar that can’t be implemented in XP obviously ;D

edit: I’m just wrong on one point, the screenshot is from Seven, not Vista.

thought so.

Generally I have XP SP3 windows automatic updates set to ‘Notify of updates but not install.’ So I check what is offered and uncheck things like the Malicious software one, etc. On dial-up I have to be selective or it could tie my system up for long periods (it has taken days in the past to get updates).

If I actually go to windows update, I always use Custom for the same reasons and have never seen this update to the update process until today.

but here you say that you got the update in the updates site. ???

So visiting hXXp://wXw.update.microsoft.com/ after this batch of posts, when checking for updates if offered to install the latest windows update version which I accepted. Once installed, it completed the check and I have no updates pending, as expected.

Only because of these posts, did I visit update.microsoft, that is when it offered to install the latest windows update version which I accepted. This was ‘outside’ of the normal update process (when it is initialising, getting your system info, etc.). As I said once installed it then completes the standard update process.

just wanted to confirm because I didn’t get any update through windows update site. , thanks., sir DavidR.

You’re welcome.

Hi forum friends,

Bochs is emulation software with which one can create image files of various Operational Systems on the present platform. The software is fantastic to run older versions of Windows, Linux or Mac software on your Windows machine. It will run on almost whatever hardware and will emulate practically every OS: http://bochs.sourceforge.net/

I had a similar issue posted elsewhere in the forum

At first I thought it was a virus given that only my desktop went through the update and not my laptop.
I’ll go on MS’s update site and see what that gives.

Is that a Star Gate I see in the background? ;D

Get Complete Control Over Internet Explorer

quote:

IEController is a free tool that allows users to control every aspect of Internet Explorer browser, including the execution of ActiveX Controls.

It is a tool for advanced users only, if you are a beginner who is looking to tweak IE then you must understand the concept of ActiveX, and how programs are controlled before giving this tool a try.

I have not tried it yet.

nmb

I am afraid to use it as it looks like it could really mess up IE.

The Web Browser Turns 15: A Look Back
Here is a look back at 15 years of wars, lawsuits, and standards the Web browser has brought us.

good flash back! thanks for that Bob.

What is Fiddler?
Fiddler is a Web Debugging Proxy which logs all HTTP(S) traffic between your computer and the Internet. Fiddler allows you to inspect all HTTP(S) traffic, set breakpoints, and “fiddle” with incoming or outgoing data. Fiddler includes a powerful event-based scripting subsystem, and can be extended using any .NET language.

Fiddler is freeware and can debug traffic from virtually any application, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and thousands more.

Speaking of flash backs.
I was working at the International Technical Support Center in Raleigh N.C. at that time where I was responsible for developing eduction material for a large hosts based application called NetView:

My co-worker asked me in to review his material and he showed me this thing he called “The Web” using a thing he called Mosaic and I was amazed.

I am quite well versed in IBMese.
Why is acronym such a big word?
