Need help regarding HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVAST Software

I have a key in the registry editor that I am unable to delete. I do not have Avast installed on my machine any longer and I used the uninstaller, but am still having some trouble with a key…below are popups I have receiving when attempting to delete the key.
The requested security information is either unavailable or can’t be displayed (this is the message I get when I right click on the Avast Software Folder)

Avast cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: The system cannot find the file specified (this is the message I get when attempting to delete the folder)

I have googled this issue, but have come up short. Any expert help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There really is little information to work with here. It would be helpful if you posted what this key is.

No Pop-up images in your post.

If as you said you no longer have Avast on your system it is hardly surprising that you can’t open it.

You could try this (to make sure everything is removed):

    • Follow the instructions in the link in 1.

DavidR,

I have attached a screenshot. The instructions you sent, did not work. I will send a second screenshot, since I was not able to post two at a time.

DavidR,

Attached is the second screenshot.

If Avast is still installed/active or possibly remnants - then it is likely that the Avast self-defence module is protecting/preventing the action.
Disable the Self-Defense settings in Avast Antivirus via Settings > General > Troubleshooting, and untick Enable Self-Defense.

In what way didn’t they work ?

DavidR:

Thank you for the response. I don’t have Avast installed and using the methods you provided, did not allow me to delete the Avast Software registry key. Nothing has worked so far. I am not sure how to further explain it.

David R,

I used the Avast Uninstaller in safe mode and it took care of the problem. I thank you for your responses and suggestions. It is appreciated.

Avast may have been uninstalled incorrectly. Then you should install it and try to remove it using Avast Clear.

It may also be necessary to check the file system for errors. Run cmd and execute chkdsk c: /r

After running the Avast clear in safe mode, it took care of the issue.

Why open two topics for this problem?

And then not even mention what version of Avast you have or had installed.

Strange that, just what the instructions for Avast Clear
