NEW: AVG Antivirus Beta 17.1.3005

Hi all,
we just released new beta AVG 17.1.3005. We are getting closer to the final release, so there should be much less bugs than in previous betas.

If you have previous AVG Beta installed, then you can use the in-product update(Menu->Settings->Update). No need to install again. Or it will also update automatically in few hours if you kept the Program update settings on “Auto”

What’s new:

  • Software Analyzer (IDP) now works also on Windows XP
  • Quarantine is now fully working
  • Exclusions should work as usual

Known issues:

  • accessing Data Safe with correct password sometimes does not work via shortcut
  • crashes of the explorer.exe caused by shell extension (scanning and/or shredding)

  • You might see issue from ZEN You won’t be fully protected until you restart your PC For this case log into ZEN account/create a new one and log in. You should get updated trial license. Unfortunately the message requiring restart will still remain hidden in ZEN.

What if you don’t want to sign into Zen? The context menu crashing is a bit annoying to be slipped through even into beta release…

hi, installed new beta, went well, and running well thankfully,

Seems that you have messed up the function for one of the buttons in the Quarantine. Selecting a file with a checkbox and then clicking the “Scan” button actually restores the file to the original location. ???

Hi all

Any Infos for the multilanguage Version available when yes when will you release it

With best Regards

It looks coming up good But wont try it coz of “Zen”.
Wish you remove “Zen”.

I don’t understand why Zen has to be a separate interface component. In fact I don’t get the idea of these retarded “middleware” launchers at all. Why not create tabbed interface where Zen categories are on top and as you select each tab, individual components (like Antivirus, VPN or PC Cleanup etc) are directly visible below, instead of opening ANOTHER window.

I mean, how can you call something “Zen” when it’s anything but that? It’s clumsy, awkward, unnecessary middle step that doesn’t calm me down, it just annoys me every bloody time I want to open the antivirus.

I thought the idea of a good interface was to keep the number of levels to a minimum, so options aren’t buried.

And with launchers they go in the exact opposite direction…

That would be my impression, almost one step forward followed by one step back.

You have ads. If you want to promote AVG PC Tune up, use the ads. No need for PC tune up in the AVG Zen. You have the “Fix computer performance” button in AVG antivirus in the bottom right. If AVG PC tune up is installed, that button will open PC Tune up. If not, it will open a page to promote PC Tune up. Web Tune up is an extension/addon/toolbar, so no need for its own place in AVG Zen. Promote it during install as an optional component, and leave it available in the stores for those who want to install it. No need for a button in Zen, it can be opened from the browser. Integrate Hide My A** VPN like SecureLine in AVG. And voala, no need for Zen locally installed at all. Now create one web platform with just the names and logos and URLs different for Avast and AVG for remote management like Bitdefender Central and Avira Online Essentials, and let us run scans, change settings and see reports from the web console from any browser. Keep the option to keep AVG connected but without so called “admin Zen rights” so someone cannot change settings if we don’t want to. The network techician has turned off my grandma’s AV off. :o That’s not a low amount of work, but leave it for after you have improved the protection. After all, AVG’s users are used to the Zen from the last years and will be okay with Zen for the next 6-7 months till you get to make these changes. And Avast’s users don’t have Zen. All happy.

Again :stuck_out_tongue: New beta 17.1.3006 seems to be available. Soon we’ll get new topic

I’d be happy to see such a frequency with the Avast beta.

Seems like it’s out of beta

Well in essence avast will be far superior AVG considering it’s not getting hardmode. But avast is getting both IDP and hardmode!

And avast! is also getting far nicer amoeba tray icon

Once CyberCapture gets to its full potential hardened mode will not be needed.

Once CyberCapture gets to its full potential hardened mode will not be needed.

Personally I believe they compliment each other and it is also protection in depth.

Hardened Mode Aggressive checks executables against the avast cloud database and will only allow white listed files to be run. It could also be a link to run CyberCapture if there is no record of the file hash.

The bug is still there in the officially released 17.1.3006!!! I understand you are in a hurry, but don't make such compromises.
