Seriously; if they aren’t actively aware and working on a fix on all these issues I’m uninstalling Avast and never looking back. I do not need to link to a topic they should already be on top of. This is just sad.
About as sad as not a $$#% word about these major problems in this release announcement. It feels like we are deliberately kept in the dark.
New “feature” in this release for those of us who chose offline installer option. The downloaded file no longer installs over the previous version. The error “solution” (attached) is to run the online installer. So keeping an offline installer (by release) could still be (for now?) an option to get back to a prior release, but I’m guessing the best practice would be to also keep a copy of the Avast settings for the release.
They have been pointed to the right location many times by many people. This should be on their radar. If they need yet another link to the exact same threads, I’ll consider the whole situation hopeless. They aren’t babies, and we aren’t babysitters. I hope they will comment soon and let us know what the hell to expect and when. This 24.11 announcement completely ignores all current issues so that’s a bad sign.
Hi, there are some reports that Avast scan shows strange error recently.
It’s “The system does not support the command requested. (120)”, appearing on the scan log file.
Sample (sorry it’s Japanese):
I have a small question about the virus database updates and I don’t know if it’s linked to this new version or if it was already the case before.
I noticed this morning that the last update was 2 days old.(not yet unprotected)
My updates are configured automatically (every 4 hours configured in ‘geek:area’).
As my computer hasn’t been on for that long, this could be normal, but it seemed to me that the updates were also done when the computer started up? can you confirm this?
nb: I’ve rebooted about ten times in the last 2 days but no updates (apart from maybe the continuous ones).
I’ve reduced the check time to 30 minutes and now the updates are done after this time (but not before).
Is it normal that they are no longer done at start-up?
ps:repair done
You should be getting the Streaming updates see attached image
I’m holding back on 24.11, given I wasn’t really having any issues since I removed the streaming updates - but they won’t be reflected in the Virus Definitions version. They should keep it up to date until you get the VPS update, see the Defs sub-folder.
I know I’m protected by streaming updates, but I also know that at some point the “classic” VPS updates will replace them if the updates are configured to be updated automatically … which is the case in my screenshot from yesterday.
Before the update to program version 24.11, when I rebooted my computer and a new VPS update was available, the update took place, regardless of the scheduled delay.
Today, I find myself with tons of streaming updates (okay, I’m still protected) but still no automatic vps update, even though it does exist and is properly notified to me (see my screenshot).
Of course, if I click on “check for updates” or reduce the scheduled time so that my computer is still on, the update will take place.
For the test, I’ll wait until tomorrow or the day after to see if anything moves or if I get stuck with the 241117-02 vps
I generally leave my laptop on all the time and just close the lid to put it in standby. When I open it coming back online I guess it does a VPS check.
I’ve done a lot of restarts since Sunday, and I’ve also tried to put my PC to sleep, but when I come out I still don’t have any update done…Before, when avast did an update at startup, I had to wait about twenty seconds before the ball turned and said I was protected.
Now it displays that I’m protected right after I log on.
Here’s the status of streaming updates
Another thing I noticed, but which may have been there before, is the “AvVps” folder under “Avast Software” and not under “Avast”.
