Followed the prompt a few nights ago to download the “newest” free version of Avast so I did. I have been using Avast for a couple years with no problems. But after downloading it and restarting computer like I was told, all my searches are redirected to www1.search-results.com. Thanks Avast for screwing me and my computer! I have uninstalled it from my control panel and it still runs no matter what I try. Any suggestions without getting really in-depth technical? Thanks in advance.
run AdwCleaner and click delete button…
post log here
you find it here. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
wxw1.search-results.com is a browser hijacker, and you did not get it from avast.
Pondus, I appreciate your help but YES I DID get it from Avast! I did not have it, I downloaded the Avast newest version as I was prompted and restarted the computer and it was there, along with the new version of Avast. I searched minutes before I downloaded it, downloaded it and then searched and it was there. So yes, it was given to my by Avast, compliments of downloading their new version. I’m very particular about what sites I visit to avoid viruses and whatnot. But yes, Avast gave it to me.
Won’t let me post the log. Say’s it exceeds 1,000 characters.
try attaching the log
is Your problem gone?
Where did you download the update from ? As Avast does not include that toolbar as it is a browser hijacker
I still have the problem. I downloaded the Avast update from the Avast box that pops up in the lower right hand corner of the computer. I will attempt to attach logs in a following post.
I ran the AdwCleaner and it detected www1.search-results.com and www.dts (something) and says it deleted them but they are still there when searching. How do I open my “logs” to post them on here? Thanks!
FYI: I read the sticky on this section about posting logs and all the details it goes into about downloading and changing this and that is something i would really be afraid to do myself since I am afraid I might screw something up worse. I suppose I could try it though if I have no other choice.
AdwCleaner is safe to use for deletion of toolbars and OTL is purely a diagnostic tool
Yes AdwCleaner detected both browser hi-jacker things and says it deleted them but they are still there like before. How do I do a log printout to post on here?? Thanks for your help!
This AdwCleaner log is what it showed after I ran it and restarted the computer. It shows deleted but they are still on the computer.
Just FYI: I just tried Internet Explorer and Google using that browser seems NOT to be affected by the www1.search… or the dts search thing. A Google search there seems to perform normally. But I don’t like using IE since it slower on my computer and I use Google Chrome.
This is the log before I ran the AdwCleaner
Sorry about the several posts I made! I went by the “sticky” and created logs. I will try to post them all here. Any help is really appreciated. I don’t need an answer immediately but as someone’s convenience in the next day or two would be appreciated!
Won’t let me add more attachments to this post. I’ll post the others in a separate post immediately
I think these are the final two mentioned in the sticky.
Hi BigBlueTiger.
You did good. All the logs needed are attached. Wait for essexboy to give you more instructions. Since he is located in the UK, I think you should have an answer tomorrow.
Thanks for the update! I really appreciate it.
Please don’t take what I’m about to say as good Information. It’s just my stupidness that’s actually posting this.
The attached file Avast.txt is dts and the search-results stuff along with looks like a bunch of random redirects.
I’m going to guess that the site there are Malicous sites. Just my 2 cents.
You could try a manual removing from Add/Remove Programs. Not sure if it’ll be effective though. So don’t take this info till Essex says it has some Merit to it.
That log may or may not be accessible due to I’m on my U:/ Drive not my C:/
