I already told this in the 4.5 release thread but it looks like it is snowing under there.
This is what happened sofar (briefly):
One system
Using Outlook for personal mail.
Using Opera mail to recieve mail for a cybercafé.
Everything was working fine.
Upgraded to Avast 4.5
Outlook remained working, Opera wasn’t able to recieve mail anymore.
Standard mail provider set in Outlook is mail.home.nl (for both smtp and pop)
pop server in Opera is pop3.introweb.nl
smtp provider in Opera is mail.home.nl (since Introweb doesn’t allow relay of mail)
Had to manually setup Avast4.ini and Opera for the pop account to be able to receive mail (the 127.0.0.1 trick)
After that it is working.
1] Why the need to change the pop server and related setting in Opera in order to be able to receive mail again while it was working with Avast 4.1? Looking at the reaction of Vlk this shouldn’t have happened.
2] Anyone else has this or can check it with Opera (and other browsers)?
3] Has anyone else have this problem?
4] Other related info or simular problems? Please let us know.
It is not a (big) problem for me. I already found a (the?) solution. But the fact remains that is shouldn’t have happened. I think the people at Alwil also are interested in this.
I’v tried it with two other mail accounts. Just setting up the mail accounts, not configuring Avast to scan them. Borh where unable to retrieve mail when the Internet Mail provider was running. Disabled the imp and everything was working like it should.
Maybe one mail had a timeout and had not yet released specific ports used by POP3/SMTP. I checked two accounts at the same time in Thunderbird and i didn’t encounter any error.
OK, tested it with OE (version 6). No default pop server set in avast4.ini. Same settings as I had in Opera. Sending and receiving worked without a problem.
It seems to be a problem related to Opera and receiving mails through a pop server.
BTW do you see the Mail Scanner tray icon (the one with the tiny blue police beacon?) while Opera is trying to download mail?
Yup, it is there when I try with Opera. And it does show the IP of the ISP mail provider.
Just hooked up a clean system with XP Pro SP2, only Opera installed. Mail worked fine.
Installed Avast 4.1, no problems.
Upgraded to 4.5, same problem appeared.
Used the same system. But now only with OE and Avast, no problem.
Sure looks like it is a problem with Opera and Avast to me.
btw, I’m using Avast Pro, not that I think it makes a difference with the home version.
We could move this option to the Advanced page of the Internet Mail provider. Since it has already been translated for the Wizard no extra translation should be needed. I’ll tell vojtech about this feature change req.
I think it would bee good thing to present beta version on the home page of avast! so many people could try it.anybody knows when avast team will propose 4.5 in his final version?
Eddy, please send me by mail the file Avast4\DATA\log\aswMaiSv.log generated during mail receipt. Before testing, add line
Log=20
to avast4.ini under [MailScanner] for detailed logging.
Thank you.
I just noticed that when I do NOT specify a smtp server in avast4.ini and only set smtp server in the mail client to 127.0.0.1 and the username to user#pop3.introweb.nl it also recieve the mail.
