that is where i am at
when i saw your picture and click it when it got bigger i saw Recommended Download: Click Here to Check for System Problems that what i did and i no iwas wrong. it a litter icon that say minstal it is called that. it is not installed so can i just delete it.
Yep. Delete it.
Download where I’ve indicated you should click in the last picture I posted. Under the “downloads” button that has the downward moving chevrons (arrows) on it.
by the time you get this it will be on my desk top now I can
;D :o 8)
Now I have this in stalled jre-6u13-windows-i586-p and I still have that zip floder on my desktop. I guess you want the zip folder deleted it has been there for a few days and now I should go in the control and unstall the old version. right or wrong? ;D
in the control panel this is the java{tm} 6 update2 I see there it does look different then the last one I saw here a few days ago. I wonder if when I click on one of those 2 sites that they had a java to download. do you think it downloaded one of them also back a ways I remember clicking on update and back then remove old version. the one that is there now is different then the one I just put on my desktop. I have not installed that one. also did not know if you wanted the java{tm}2 unstalled.
Sharon
Yes, uninstall the old Java (6 update 02)
I have enclosed a picture of my “add/remove programs” with the current Java in about the middle. Yours look like that?
The older version may have a different icon beside it, looks like a mini-computer.
Programs downloaded to the desktop will usually have a different icon to the icon used once the program is installed. The second picture shows some typical installer packages (and one hidden file) and the icons for them once installed are usually quite different, and more like the brand logo.
You can run JavaRa after uninstalling the old Java version. Just set it to remove old versions. It will produce a log file afterwards, which you can keep if you want, or delete. I don’t need to see it.
After that you can delete JavaRA, and the zip file it came in.
Next. Select Folder options, in any explorer window, or from the control panel, (Let me know if you need instructions on that) and set it to not show hidden and system files. (the third picture.Mine is shown to show them. I have written This one beside the option to select.) Once that is done, let me know if any of the strange icons on your desktop have disappeared.
The unstaill is easy I have done that many times. I am not sure how much time I may have now but can at least unstall the old version and look at some of the other steps very closely.
thanks Sharon
the old Java is gone and the new is in I guess but it did not give a log file so I am glad you do not need to see it. now were are we at is there any more to this part. I will try to be back but just not sure when. till next time.
Thanks Sharon
So far so good. (What a relief. :D)
Now where are we at?
And after that Ill get you to post another HjT log. (Don't forget to open HjT by running as administrator.)
say Select Folder options For this next part you want me to use IIE & and I know as soon as you start to explane I well remember. just explane the 1st part ya want me to do when I select folder option. I cannot remember where the folder option is located. if it is in a pulldown menu I have not found it yet. let me know that part and we continue. I about to head to bed and I know it is about time for your day to start. have a good one
Sharon
“Folder options” refers to Explorer, not Internet Explorer. (Confusing ain’t it?)
There is, of course, more than one way to find it.
One is looking in the control panel.
Another is to just double click the “my computer” icon. The window that opens is an Explorer window. At the top of that are a series of buttons…“file”, “view”, “edit” and one of them is “tools”. Select tools, and select "folder options.
You’re in.
I started typing at 1thirty am and it is 1.58 pm now
on my old computer on my desktop I had a computer icon, and you could also go to control panel and just double click
on my computer. that would be how to open and Explorer window. here is how I had to do it. I had to go to start and to the right of the words on a black background you would have words like computer, control panel default programs. I click on the word computer and that is how just now to open and explorer window. I will try to figure out more now. as you can see not how confused I can get. ![]()

Did I mention I’m not a native Vista speaker, either? ;D
However you got to an explorer window is fine. Any explorer window. (Just not Internet Explorer.)
Tools>folder options then set to how the picture shows.
To make sure I open the right way on this computer to open windows explorer I click the start and when I saw the words windows explorer I click it. there are only 3 things to choose from I don’t have “file”, “view”, “edit” and one of them is “tools”. Select tools, and select "folder options. I have organize, views, and burn. I will open it a different way and see if I can fine tools {smile} Sharon
OK. From techzone forums:
To access folder options in Vista is a bit different from that of XP.You have to go to the control panel (switch to classic view) then select Folder Options, and the view tab, then under Advanced Settings, you can pick the options you prefer.
Try that.
Or if you are in a folder already (or still) select "view>advanced settings " and see where that goes.
when I click on control panel I already told you how I open windows explorer and I did it different then the 1st post I had open windows explorer. when I click control panel there is 2 different ways to view just doing control panel you don’t have any pull down menus on the left side you can see control panel and classic view at the top right there are 4 others to choose from on the bottom left, but if you click classic view you have a lot of icon s you can click on but the only one that has the word tools in it is {Administrative tools} I will keep looking to see if I I see any other one that says tools
yes I know your do not use window vista it just takes me a while to figure out how you do and fine out how I have to do the same thing just a different way {smile}
thanks Sharon hope I am close to fineing what you want me to fine
found it just click it. thanks Sharon
OK. Was it set to “show hidden files” or “do not show hidden files”?
And if it was set to “show hidden files” and you have changed it, do any of those desktop icons go away?
