quick player and windows media

I am sorry for being a pain again, but you well have to start from the begnning with java I guess I can get back to the part where I was. witch at the last step I saw a different webpage then you did. I had at one point click update then back and click to remove old java. witch I don't thing it did cause I still have one in the control panel that you can change or unstall.

Sharon

One thing on my old laptop when you updated window you updated java at the same time. would’nt that be easy to just going back to the basic old computer. (smile)

At around the time you had your old laptop updating Java had a critical flaw: the java updater failed to remove the old versions installed. These would stay and be capable of being active, and being exploited. So you could have a new Java installation, think you’d patched the vulnerability (there were lots) but still be vulnerable to what was rapidly becoming a well known exploit.
That is supposed to be fixed now. But I’m still suspicious.

Let’s try to shortcut it a bit. Go here, the page will look like the picture. Select “windows” for your platform, tick the “I agree” box, click continue. Save the file to your desktop.
When that’s finished, close your browser.
Doubleclick the file to run it. (It should, if nothing has changed, look like a coffee cup steaming.)
When that’s finished, if it prompts you to reboot, do so, if not carry on.
Start JavaRa, and click “remove old versions”
This should take a few seconds.
When finished, go here to verify your installation.
Post back here.

by husband is coming back from the store and I will be busy for awhile but I went to the page and do not know what you want me to download from that side will be back when I can

Get the latest Java Runtime Environment to use Sun Download Manager

Internet Explorer Users: Check the top of this page for a “Java™ Web Start ActiveX Control” message in the information bar. If it appears, click it to finish detecting your Java version.

We were unable to detect a recent version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your system. With the latest JRE, you can automatically download, install, and run Sun Download Manager (SDM) directly from this page. We highly recommend SDM to easily manage your downloads (pause, resume, restart, verify, and more). Visit java.com for the latest JRE.

Hi Sharon -

You can use Opera to download the java update. I will use my Opera browser and try to give you step by step with pictures of what you should see at each step.

Step 1 -

Open (or start) the JavaRa and select English language. See image below. Click the select button.

PS - you can slick on each image I post to enlarge it.

Step 2 -

You should now see the image below. Click on the “Search For Updates” button.

Step 3 -

You should now see the image below. Click the white circle to the left of the second option.

Now, click the search button.

Step 4 -

You should now see the image below. Read the directions and then click on the “Open Webpage” button.

Step 5 -

Your browser should now open a webpage that looks like the image below which only shows the top half of the page.

Step 6 -

Scroll down the page until you see the part of the page shown in the image below.

It is the fifth entry going down the list. If it is easier for you, count the orange download buttons down to the #5 button.

Step 7 -

Now, at the fifth entry, click on that orange download button. In the image below, I have a little hand on the orange download button you should click. This should start the download. If you are using Opera, you can check it on the Tranfers tab.

I know this is where you say to click to download but IT says 64bits and I thought I was a 32bit, or does that make a difference. it is now 3thirty am here I am kind of working in the dark. I have to be very quite if not maybe wake shadow and if he does not get the right thing he wants when he get up. he will wake the rest of the pets up and My husband. shadow is my husband African grey and he some times well scream just to wake mike up. my BF amazon sweetpea is very quite but not shadow.
I just want to make sure you understand That I been told this computer is a 32bit not a 64 before I download it. thanks Sharon

I did not even relize I was talking to some one new this morning instead Tarq57 I am talking to CharleyO. you are not really new to me you have been helping me too.

Hi Sharon, yeah there’s a couple or three of us helping out here.
I asked CharleyO if he’d mind giving a hand since you seemed to be having trouble following my directions. (And I don’t use Opera.)
He’s made a good job, I think, showing you a step by step. Sometimes it just takes a different point of view.

I can see how you might be hesitant about the 64bit thing. It’s not worded that well. It means it supports a plug in for 64bit windows, as well as 32bit. Maybe they thought most people would just assume that.
Anyway, download and install it. The plugin will only be installed if it registers a 64bit browser. The bit in brackets is basically saying “don’t expect a 64bit operation in your 32 bit browser. 32 bits is your limit.”

A bit like if you have a black and white TV, and a dvd player, and you rent a colour dvd to play (yes, I know, they are all in colour these days) you will see the video on your tv, same as always, but it’s not magically going to appear in colour. The architecture won’t support it.
