After update to Avast 24.8, software updater not load applications. I see only “Software updater” and below is blank page.
In Avast 24.9 is no change. Setup is the same. “Software updater” should be under “Cleanup” if is dependent on it, same way as “Ransomware shield” is under “Behavior shield”.
I checked only “Software updater” and Avast GUI tell me i have not installed it.
I use premium and had uninstalled the “cleanup” component a long time ago but Software updater was installed.
Today, when I came across this message, I took a closer look.
SU is still part of the UI and if I add/remove components I see that cleanup is checked.
That said, the “cleanup” component is still not present in my UI… All this is a bit strange.
@mchain
and Software Updater was never a comprehensive program covering hundreds of programs
Have you tried the engine running with version 24.8?
I was surprised to see 11 new programs appear (like malwarebytes, MVC++, openoffice,…) on the day I installed 24.8.
I also saw that you could integrate Windows updates by checking the box in the settings (it’s unchecked by default).
it’s true that this may not yet be the entirety of what’s installed on the pc, but it must be said that avast hasn’t let this component stagnate.
Personally, I’ve deactivated its automatic updates and use it to keep an eye on the timing of major program updates.
And I don’t let avast do the updates, I do them via the program itself.
Is nonsense merge those two features together. I dont want have installed any “cleanup” tool. Anyway, I can live without software updater too.
@mchain sorry for the confusion. Petr meant the “Cleanup” component, which is part of the Antivirus, and it now contains the Software Updater feature.
There’s no need to install the standalone program Avast Cleanup.
You can install the Cleanup component by following this article: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/add-remove-antivirus-components/
Install Cleanup to get Software Updater?
What would’ve been helpful would’ve been a notation of this software change/feature was to occur in version 24.8 at the time of deploying the software.
I believe Cleanup is a paid-for feature, if I am not mistaken, and is one not needed, and Software Updater was never a comprehensive program covering hundreds of programs, I’ll pass.
Thank you anyway.
Hello everyone. We are really sorry for this mess. We changed software update engine in 24.8 version. Ufortunately setup changes are not ready properly and UI doesn’t offer correct step to add this component when missing - we are fixing it right now. As a fix for the meantime you can install Software updater via Add/Remove features from the Avast setting. Software Updater is now part of Cleanup component and Software Updater item will be removed. So if you need Software updater back you have to install Cleanup.
Follow-up to attach one more .png file.
Just to be clear, I don’t use this feature to keep programs up-to-date, as there are other updating programs that are more comprehensive, but only to keep an eye on things
Sorry, I’ve to report this issue is prevalent in my systems. This is a GUI issue as the usual placeholders are not present on any of my systems.
See attached below:
Performing a clean install does not rectify this issue in all cases.
I use American English.
See second post for an additional .png attached file.
It doesn’t change when language is set to english.
Settings are there, main window is empty.
Hi, I’m sorry about this trouble. We’re preparing fix for a similar problem that may occur in some non-english languages. Can you please check if the problem persists when you temporarily switch your UI language to English?
To do that, please:
[ol]- Open Avast and go to - Menu - Settings - General - User Interface - MANAGE LANGUAGES - check English and let it install.
- Once installed, select English from the list of available languages.
- Close settings and go to the Software Updater menu.[/ol]
Please let me know if it worked.
Could we get a word on this because this happened to me to leaving me wondering for a while what is wrong.
The software updater module is installed but it says it isn’t for some reason.
The first checkbox to enable automatic updates checks, but is not remembered.
I’ve already done a full clean installation of Avast! with all leftover files and registry removed as far as I could tell but no fix.

Same here, just an empty page.
Something has changed with the Software Updater screens but, on my Avast Free, I get (essentially) the same display as @DavidR not that in @TheOwner’s post when I click “Performance” from the main GUI.
I did clean installation too. Its probably bug and should be fixed.

I have that same problem yesterday until now. I even went to uninstall it using avastclear and reinstall it again. After installing it from offline installer, it went ok. But After updating the Virus Definitions version. It went like that again.
If you mean the small arrow is the one in my previous attached image, I don’t thing that means you need to download it.
However, in the Menu > Settings > Performance indicates it is a paid product ‘for the automatic update of said programs.’
Personally I have never used this, preferring to keep my programs up to date manually and let Microsoft handle the windows updates.
I dont mean anything about your image. I just report my Software updater shows nothing.

Of course I did restart. Strange thing is, I have small download arrow on Software updater icon, but I have software updater already installed. I checked it under components and also settings page for software updater is available.
Just manually updated and restarted from 24.7 to avast! free 24.8.6127 (build 24.8.9372.862) UI 1.0.814 and that section (Performance) displays normally.
I assume you have done a system restart.
