Unable to reactivate Avast Free antivirus

Thanks for the link .. I will download the offline installer and give it a try .. I am using Windows 7 and I think maybe that is the reason the latest version may not work for my system?

Minimum system requirements list some Windows 7.

Having looked at your Avast version screenshot, you still have Avast 21.2.2455, now that is over 4 years old and an older UI version UI 1.0.839. I don’t know if that is a contributory factor or not, re-registration not working with current avast registration system and your UI version.

Where you got this I don’t know as you can only get the latest avast version directly from Avast download. kinks.
It may be worth doing a clean reinstall of Avast, this would effectively clear everything and start with a clean slate.

Clean Reinstall

I have just down loaded the latest offline version from the official download link and that gives the latest version.

Whenever I have tried downloading from the Avast site I was getting the older version but from the links that you gave I have successfully downloaded the latest offline version .. but it’s not compatible with my system hence not installed ..I will now be looking for other options for this system. Thanks all for your support.

What was happening to you when you downloaded from the Avast website and the old version came up every time? I believe it’s because of your operating system. So, when you downloaded from the link provided here in this thread, you were able to download it, but now you can’t install it because of your operating system.

Best regards, good luck.

Yes that was the reason. Thanks.

Greetings!
I’m having the same problem as user2976.
I’m running Windows 11 and have the latest version of Avast Free Antivirus installed.
My license is set to expire in 9 days.
Many thanks for the forum.

Hi, can you please capture the following?

  1. Screenshot showing the screen with the unresponsive “Select” button.
  2. Logs as per this article: How to submit a support file using the Avast Support Tool | Avast (Please enter “891495” as your ticket number.)

Once that’s done, please share the screenshot and the “File ID” that’s shown on the finish screen in Support Tool.

I’m not sure about that one to be honest. Version 18 is very old at this point so there might be some unexpected issues there.
But if there’s a button that says “Select” and it is not doing anything, that would be a bug (assuming it is one of the more recent program versions like version 24.8 or newer).

Sorry for the late. just FYI, maybe your machine’s CPU does not support SSE3 that requires on latest Avast. According to old topics, around 21.4 is the last Avast version which supports non-SSE3 CPUs.

I think you are right.

I myself use the latest version of avast without any problems on a W7SP1 machine, but with an SSE3-compatible processor (see the screenshot provided by CPU-Z).

I am having the same problem as user2976 and user2990
I am running Windows11 (latest version) and latest version of Avast Free Antivires 25.7…
My license expired and an I am not able to reactivate (identical problem as described by user2976)
Reactivate has never be a problem in the past.
Hope somebody can resolve this issue

user2976 and user2990 do not have the same problem.

The problem is normally resolved either by waiting for the expiration date or by properly uninstalling the current version with the tool, as DavidR indicated above.

This type of problem is not new, and the proposed solutions have always worked.

I don’t know what user2990 did, but since he is using W11, I think he will no longer have the problem 1 or 2 days after the expiration date or after using the uninstallation tool in safe mode and then reinstalling the free version (preferably offline).

The same should be true for you.

The case of user2976 is a little different because he has a new problem when trying to reinstall the free version of avast, which is that it is apparently no longer compatible with his system/processor combination.

Hi @gebruiker168 and thank you for reporting this. Can you please share screenshots of the reactivation flow you’re trying to follow?

I start here

Then I click either activate or reactivate and get this:

Thank you @gebruiker168 , are you able to click the first (dark blue) “SELECTEREN” button on the second screen? Or is it not responding?

I don’t know how this happened but my problem has been solved. Maybe some update has fixed the issue as I myself did not do anything. Program now shows that it is activated.

It’s the same older version of Avast that is compatible with Win 7.

As I said earlier

I think he will no longer have the problem 1 or 2 days after the expiration date

That may be what happened, because I noticed that sometimes the automatic renewal for another year with avast free took place a few days after the expiration date.
