Unable to reactivate Avast Free antivirus

Hello all,

One year free subscription of the free Avast anti virus has expired for me so it’s asking me to reactivate. But when I am selecting the free anti virus option it is always leading me to a window asking me to buy an offer. So I am unable to select the free anti virus.

Delete it then re-install.

As far as I as an Avast Free user there has never been a gracious way to say no thanks.
Typically on the final window I just X it out or use Alt+F4 to close the window.

Not sure about the order you have posted your images, are you unable to select Avast Free Select option rather than the Highlighted option ?

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled.

The order of the images given is not exactly precise .. after selecting Free option in the second image the window displayed in the first image comes up and I am stuck there with no way to escape that window. If I close it I will be again shown that I need to activate my anti virus.

I have been using Avast Free for over 20 years and this has always been accessible, yes they tried to push the paid products.

I see Images 2 as the first image in order of appearance and image 3 as the 2nd. Was there an image 1 or was that unrelated ?

What version number of Avast are you using ?

I’m still using Avast 25.5 as I didn’t like the issues some users reported in the forums for 25.6 and the details about 25.7 recently released are very scant. In an AV program that is important and should have details bugs fixed, updated features and User Interface settings changes, etc.

Some time ago X’ing it out and or Alt F4 used to work and eventually the free version automatically updated.

Hi @user2976 , this sounds like a bug which we will investigate. I understand you reinstalled the product so you cannot reproduce this issue anymore, is that correct?

@prokopes_ The “Select your security level” screen with no option to select Avast Free Antivirus is what I have seen on Avast 18 (WinXP/Vista) for some time. Is that also a bug?

Thanks for your time. Here is a ss of the version:

Thanks .. I uninstalled and reinstalled hoping that it would solve the problem but that was not the case .. Every time I select free anti virus version it is leading me to that image 1 window and I’m stuck there unable to activate the anti virus.

No, but you could either X it out or use Alt F4 and it didn’t throw you back to the original screen.

If I close it it takes me back to the original screen where the program is still not activated. So I can not activate it by any means.

Now every time I start the PC the following window pops up .. Is it at all possible to activate Avast or do I need to look for other options?

I have been using Avast Free version for more than 15 years now and I am very satisfied with it … never had to look for other options .. moreover never had this issue where I am unable to activate the program.

I have been having this same issue, been an avast free user for years and never had this problem before, 3 hours of my life i will never get back… stuck in the same loop as you… renew free licence, discount x out back to you have 11 days left… please someone tell me how to sort this

Dump Avast! If people are having the problems as above why the hell to you want this program? It’s not very good, it blocks good programs and does little more then annoy me. And I’ve been using their premium rubbish for about 15 years now and I’m about to dump it in the bin and I’ll use what’s available withing windows security. At least it doesn’t try and sell me rubbish and it’s easy to use.

21.2 is quite old version (4 years ago), maybe you should update to latest version.

I have downloaded the version from the Avast website just one day ago (so I assumed it to be the latest one) .. only this version is getting downloaded. Can you give me an alternate link for a more updated version?

This post by Avast Team includes both online and offline download links for version 25.7. New version 25.7
If the online link only gets you v21 then something must be wrong.
What operating system do you have?

You could otherwise try the offline installer. But first fully remove your existing version using the avastclear.exe tool.
