Unable to reactivate Avast Free antivirus

@Avast_Admin When this issue will be resolved? Impossible to pass loyalty/pay only option when we want to keep using free version.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member and Avast Free user for 21 years.

What if you use, just close the Avast Window X it out or use the Windows shortcut key stroke option pressing (Alt+F4 key) together. As has been mentioned as it goes past the expiry date it will usually activate again.

I’m having exactly the same issue, except that I’m able to reactivate. However, a day later it will tell me that my free license has expired, leading to exactly the same problem. I have not yet tried deleting and reinstalling. But yes, Devs need to take a look at this issue, as it makes the free product essentially unusable.

After taking care of my Avast Free program, I checked my wife’s install on her PC. Under “Avast Products” it says Premium Security Installed, even though the program is called Avast Free Antivirus and none of the Premium features are included. My Avast Free install read the same way until I did the av_clear in Safe Mode - which av_clear takes care of for you as an option - thank you very much for that. Then after installing the offline installation program which DavidR provided in an earlier post, I rebooted and then under “Avast Products” it says Free Antivirus Installed, so perhaps it’s a bug in the online installation program. I also backed up my settings (Menu - Settings - Troubleshooting - Back Up Your Avast Settings) there’s a button there to Backup Settings and one to Restore Settings. Just make note of where you saved the file - I believe it defaults to the Documents folder. Anyway, that’s what I’ve found out so far. Thanks for addressing this issue in the Forum.

There wont be any need of uninstalling, going into safe mode and other nonsense if Avast will fix this stupid bug of not being able to reactive free version when license expired. This is scam tactic how to force people to pay for premium version and its not cool at all. Throwing at you “unique offer” which as we see everyone gets….loyalty my ass….and not being able to click ignore/not interested is just a scam against free users.

I have last 2 days for my license, then i am deleting it and installing different AV.

Maybe try dialing down the aggression a bit? Nobody owes us anything here. You’re using a powerful piece of software completely for free, and most people have no clue what goes into building and maintaining something like that. The internet has made us so used to getting everything at no cost that it’s easy to slip into entitlement and start complaining, but in the end, we’re still getting a solid service without paying a dime.

They provide free service. I count myself as a customer of free service. Moment free avast wont be available then problem will be solved. Till then every customer has full right to demand fix for this asap and reason why these predatory tactics being used on us. People like you are reason these “accidents” happen. Do you realise many PCs become unprotected and vulnerable when license expires with no way of prolonging it without either paying or complicated uninstall/reinstall process.

And 0 word from Avast support team here, for weeks now…..0 communication, 0 info when/if this gets fixed.

The antivirus is still active, go to Windows Security and you will see everything is fine. And listen to yourself, “I’m a customer of a free service and I demand this to be fixed asap” Imagine setting up a free lemonade stand and someone yelling that the sweet-sour ratio isn’t right, demanding a new batch. Come on, we used to pay $60 for Norton in the ’90s and it still let viruses through, so try to put things into perspective.

You really comparing lemonade with antivirus protection? Avast choosed to do Free AV and dont worry, they get money from all ads and other stuff just fine otherwise free would never exist so long. And lets just focus on the issue itself, you think its accident which lasts for weeks now that you can only pay to continue your license? They could easily release an update to fix the “discount” add and reenable free license prolonging.

And main issue is that after so long they completely ignore this topic, no official responce anything. That is probably worse then issue itself cause as you say i can just delete it and move on.

According to this post by Avast staff, issue is still being investigated. New beta version - build 25.9.10401 - #4 by KarelŠťavík

Well too bad my license ended today and didnt received single reply from support. So time to move on to some other AV after 10+ years.

I’ve just noticed the same issue here too.

Made no difference whether trying to activate the free version via v25.7 or v25.8.

Clicking X after selecting the free version does nothing.

I’m surprised that this hasn’t been fixed despite it being reported nearly a month ago now. There’s starting to become a theme in recent years of bugs and frequent product updates which are not quality checked enough.
