Afraid this version broke my computer (W7 Pro). Started to want to run chkdsk every boot, but failed with the same problem as here: https://forum.avast.com/?topic=174575.0 Have uninstalled Avast and since there are unfixed errors it wanted to chkdsk on first boot, but at least it’s running now. As I write this it’s only 10% through.
Other symptoms were it went into permanent disc light and I had to force a shutdown (probably the reason for all the errors). Weird thing though, if I ignored the failed chkdsk and let it boot, which it did, the machine seemed to be working fine.
p.s. the machine needed several reboots before it started working properly, without freezes/constant disc light
Ah thanks. I had searched for chkdsk not autochk
You’re welcome.
I’m seeing that avast has errors in the new version so I have not updated it yet.
First I have windows 7 64bit.
The error that chkdsk that says it does not work affects windows 7 or only windows 8.1 / 10?
If you have errors I almost prefer not to update for now. I’ve seen others in windows 8.1 go back to the previous version.
How does the latest version of avast free work in windows 7? Chkdsk works, well I read that by uninstalling the behavior shield or something like that. But if I almost wait for it to work as it should.
I noticed today new still running process aswEngSrv.exe. Every one has this process ?
The simple answer is Yes it’s part of this version.

As I put in the link there is a problem with the https scanner of Avast Free 19.3.2369 in firefox only under windows 7.
In tests with VirtualBox the https scanner worked well under Windows 10 Pro 64bits (at least in that version of 2015).
On the other hand it did not act (nor repairing the installation) on Windows 7 Ultimate of 64bits. Firefox here allows you to download:
https://secure.eicar.org/eicar.com
Thing that under windows 10 with the same firefox avast blocked it.
VirtualBox 6.0 with Windows 10 Pro 64bits (year 2015) https scanner from Avast Free 19.3.2369 in Firefox 66.0.2 works.
https://secure.eicar.org/eicar.com (link blocked in the tests of Windows 10 Pro 64bits (year 2015) with Avast Free 19.3.2369 in Firefox 66.0.2)
VirtualBox 6.0 with Windows 7 Pro 64bits https scanner from Avast Free 19.3.2369 in Firefox 66.0.2 does not work, (allows download)
https://secure.eicar.org/eicar.com (link not blocked in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits tests with Avast Free 19.3.2369 in Firefox 66.0.2)
The question of the million would be If the https scanner works in Windows 10, because it does not in Windows 7 if it uses the same version free of avast and firefox? It is a very strange thing.
How can I do a quick scan in this version? I click on search but it doesn’t show anything. So far all I’m able to is a smart scan.
Smart Scan to me is a quick scan.
Just now when in yahoo email: https://mg.mail.yahoo.com … when I open any email Avast is saying connection blocked to:
ecp.yusercontent.com because it was infected with: URL.Phishing … This came up on any email in my Inbox when I opened it
including the one from Avast Forum notifications … I was not clicking on any link in the emails when this comes up … Please check this as I think something went wrong with the definitions … Thank you … Windows 10 Home 64 latest stable Avast Free
Just tried my yahoo email account with no issues here, nothing unexpected. Win 10 64Bit
There are a bunch of customers, including me, that would disagree there is nothing unexpected. Please see related forum posting: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=226394.0
Reported to Avast on the post you linked.
I am having the same problem with all Yahoo email, including the email just received from Yahoo with account confirmation. Just started happening today. All email images are blocked, regardless of the source.
Yes I’m aware of that thread, I was simply reporting my experience ‘nothing unespected’.
