Web Shield Causing Youtube Videos to Not Load or to Load Slowly

I’ve been noticing that Web Shield has blocked youtube videos. I have to disable the Web Shield to be able to use youtube, is there a way to prevent the Web Shield from causing these problems or is it inherent in Avast?

Sorry but avast! does not block YouTube. What other security prorams are you running ?

Hi, I realize this is an old thread, but I have the exact same problem. If I turn the web shield off, the video plays right away. I couldn’t get the exclusion list working. Is there a solution?

Hi all, I can confirm behavior described by yufei. It started with previous version of Avast. Youtube videos are played jerkily, in IE 11 it´s even worse than in Firefox - video sometimes even stops for a second (sound plays on without interruption)… Without Avast everything works fine. Win7 64bit.

Saw this issue in another thread too…the topic is not being able to access router page because of Web Shield but there is also dialogue on YouTube slow-down…just thought I’d post as FYI: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=107855.105

I have avast installed, In firefox Youtube plays right with Adblock Plus installed - no problems whatsoever.
In Google Chrome I have a problem, but disabling ABP in Chrome does not solve that error problem either.
So the problem is not with avast, but with Google hindered in some ways of their user tracking.
Google is locking down their users more and more to their terms of service. ::slight_smile:
Can anyone pinpoint the exact problem for Google Chrome error messages from the video player?
Vid links play fine when right opened up into the latest VLC Media player.

In my Google Chrome I narrowed down the problem. Flash is out for me and pnwd ;D
I take back my words, it was flash. Canged to HTML5 and wonderful even in HD.
Nothing to do with google, with avast, just flash…
No hiccups, no stutter, no problems. So go here and change over: https://www.youtube.com/html5

avast! rocks…

I also noticed some “lags” when loading scripts on other google sites (google play, image search results…), but it seems that flash is what new avast really “hates”. Not only youtube video, some flash internet speed testers are affected too.

Hi malone.m,

What makes you conclude avast is to blame?
Really uninformed. :o
Are you going to defend Adobe and Java now?
Java and Adobe have proven that they are belonging to the risée of the Internet,
where secure coding is concerned.
But with Java and Adobe flash bashing you cannot score some cheap points on an avast support forum,
so why not turn the tables around then and defend Adobe’s Flash.
Adobe comes with the same recommendation ;D ,
try HTML5: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html

Hi polonus, are you kidding me?? Only reason is that problems occured after Avast web shield has been changed (in previous version) and with Avast disabled works everything perfectly fine. Plus I’m not only one who noticed these problems after installing previous or latest version. So this is clearly BUG in web shield or browser plugin!

I have avast9 on Win7 64Bit and Win8.1 64Bit … zero problems with any video/music/YouTube.

I have installed avast9 on dozens of systems and can find no problem with YouTube.

I’m on OSX Mountain Lion and Youtube doesn’t work for Chrome AND Safari. I tried disabling AdBlock on Chrome but my Safari has NOTHING installed and still won’t work. I also tried reinstalling Flash and clearing my Chrome cache and rebooting.

My Avast is the latest version. This started this week. It was fine before.

I changed my youtube default to HTML5 video but not every video comes in that format right? How do I know if a video is loading in HTML5? It’s still not working  If I need to play a video I need to disable Web Shield.

My browser of choice is Opera 12.16. YouTube works perfectly, tried IE11 and again zero issues.

Just tried Chrome, which I rarely use and the sound track is fine, the video playback jerks to the beat of the music …

Try with and without avast, the result is the same , Chrome would appear to be the problem.

avast! for Mac forum section is here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=5.0

Interesting to know what is the source of the problem regarding YouTube in GoogleChrome?
The encryption of vids is being changed from time to time.
Did one update here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lphhdjlelnbemfkdkeanjkmbenaddllb *
Is it browser dependent? Sometimes one video sequence bumps to the next :o ::slight_smile:
Some say it is Google Chrome extension related. Has it to do with ABP or Do not track me.?
Is it really related to avast! shield interference as some suggest here?
Or is it driver related? Go to http://www.geforce.com/drivers *
It is annoying, that is what it is.

Have you tried the following ???

Thanks, bob3160,

Could see the video uninterrupted as it should be in Google Chrome.
Thanks for the instruction.

Damian

I’m using Firefox and IE11 and in both problems fixes simply disabling online security plugin… Drivers and flash player are up to date.

My pleasure. Guess you missed these instructions when I posted them back in Jan. 2013

What if you dont use the pepper plugin but still have similiar issues with jerky video or it loading slowly while the shield is active?

Plugin location is: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_13_0_0_80.dll

Could it just the browser I use since its not exactly chrome but based off chromium?
