Windows 10 - Everything you Need and Want to Know

Hi Pol, a great tool - I can recommend it. Groetjes

I used it a few days after I got my win10 laptop some time ago, I think it was bob3160 who mentioned it a very long time ago.

Damian,
You asked me if I ever heard of this tool?
This should answer your question. Note, my date of making folks aware of this tool goes all the way back to 2015.

It’s also one of the recommended items in my follow-up email to those that attend my presentations.

Why is Microsoft installing this “autopilot” update (crap) on a home PC, what doesn’t even have the autopilot function?

Perhaps this is something you should ask of MS or one of the MS forums.

They have a habit of piling unwanted on cr4p on to systems. I have absolutely no interest in the One Drive, but on virtually every update I get it trying to add a start up entry.

Some info about Autopilot https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopilot/windows-autopilot

So really, unless you’re a IT Pro (Manager) you don’t need this install?

It really doesn’t look like something that should be even offered to Home users.

EDIT: That said it bloody sat there as ‘Pending Download’ nothing optional about it.

There is one optional update pending, I think this one I didn’t download last time round Cumulative Update KB4522355.

I have just paused updates for 7 days and see if this gets sorted.

I have Windows 10 Pro and it’s not installed on my system.
Sounds to me like something installed by the user.

It was offered to some others as well, from what I gathered in my Reddit thread about this. Also it seems like it really shouldn’t’ve been offered to home users, like already noted here, so it’s Microsoft acting up again probably

Sorry but without some actual facts, I’m not about to blame Microsoft for this one. They have enough things to be blamed for already.

If they’re already to blame for a lot of mishap then it’s only logical to think that they’re totally capable of making mistakes in other areas too, don’t you think?

Not without definitive proof.

Hopefully it will be withdrawn before my 7 day pause updates ends, or it may have to get extended.

Having read the article on what this Windows Auto pilot is about, there is absolutely no requirement for it as a stand alone Home system. At the very least it should have been optional.

How do you uninstall an update that appears wasn’t optional.
I can’t remember the specific KB # for that download…anyone know for sure?

You can view your recent updates and can select the one you want to remove. Autopilot is KB4523786, the other one was Cumulative Update for .NET Framework KB4522741.

Thanks David.

I’ve also paused for 7 days. Unfortunately the 3786 update can’t be seperated from the .Net download like the old days you could “check mark” the updates you wanted and left the ones you didn’t.
My question is if I install the Auto Pilot and then uninstall, will it then come back and offered again ???

This is the link to the update’s info page
And pay attention, even this page says:“Windows Autopilot update is never offered to Windows 10 Home.”

OK, well obviously there are those here that have it sitting in updates ready to be downloaded, go figure

Well they could say it “is never offered to Windows 10 Home” it was effectively a compulsory update (not optional), rammed down the users throat.
