Windows 10 - Everything you Need and Want to Know

I have just gone through the process of uninstalling this Autopilot P.O.S. that shouldn’t have been offered to Win10 Home.

As I mentioned:
You can View Update History, there is an Uninstall Updates button at the top, that just lists them all it doesn’t start deleting them all. I selected the Autopilot one KB4523786 and chose delete, it quickly flashed in front of my eyes and requested a restart to complete the process.

Note: After I completed the uninstall, I felt I had to confirm for myself. And got a bit of a shock, in the History it still shows Autopilot successfully installed. So I stepped into the Uninstall Updates to view what was there and the Autopilot KB4523786 is no longer listed.

I would have thought that this View History entry might have been removed also or at least annotated as uninstalled.

Well, I’ll link the Reddit thread for those who’re interested in further info what we’ve got, what’s not a lot, since this is Microsoft the enigma we’re dealing with
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/dmkp8g/microsoft_installing_an_autopilot_update_on_a/

Even that site states it’s only for certain computers.

Well add a mind blower to the mix, this just happened.
I went back to the 2 updates I was offered earlier ( KB4523786 and .Net update) that I paused for 7 days and “Resumed” the updates to find that the Auto Pilot update (KB4523786) that had accompanied the .Net update was now gone and only the >Net update was showing ???
I have no idea why this happened, and to add, I went back (as I always do) and checked for updates again…to find and a new optional Cumulative update KB4522355 and decided to install it.
Auto Pilot update appears to have just ‘disapeared’

Yeah, I don’t think anyone has stated the opposite. Besides, if it was substantially widespread then it’d be a hot topic already

That is the whole point, Win10 Home installations shouldn’t have been offered it (and offered it was wrong, it was shoved down their throats) no offer, not optional, it installed.

I would guess that MS have finally pulled it based on the fact that it shouldn’t have been ‘offered’ in the first place (I really do hate that word) and various complaints/publicity.

Microsoft crowdsourced QA, and look what we got

Maybe a little late on a reply but one thing you can do is revert to the older version automatically saved before updating to 1903. Otherwise, sounds like a video driver issue or Windows setting involving putting your monitor display to sleep.

If you’re having troubles getting the Media Creation Tool, I’ve made it available
on my OneDrive → https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhqxANJ1R0yZjLkVnjas3RBBeEI-IA?e=Gi9cJg

I’ve already had my first update for this new version.

Well this is somewhat unusual for me, I had the Malicious Software Removal Tool and a Cumulative Update for win10 1903 KB4524570 pending install.

Below that a notice that an optional feature 1909 was available for download, etc. Previously I had to fight like hell to get the feature updates (usually very late (if at all)).

Currently waiting on completion of those 1903 updates (which has just happened) and a restart (about to happen).

EDIT:
Downloaded feature update and installed, I have to say this didn’t take very long at all (surprise) and restarted.

All appears to have gone OK.

If you’ve updated to v.1909 and aren’t planning to go back,
you can reclaim quite a bit of HD space.

Whilst people may not be planning to go back, I feel this measure shouldn’t be done too soon. Give the system a little time to ensure you don’t experience any issues. Even so after 30 days (I think is the default) windows should get rid of this anyway.

Microsoft Made Major Setup Changes in Windows 10 Version 1909

Why MS keeps making life damn difficult for users is beyond me. My guess is marketing in the hope to sell you something else if you have an on-line account. Fortunately I haven’t bumped into this little gem on my win10 Home version, due to how I set it up when I first got my system.

I declined much of what was offered and also used the ShutUp10 tool to quiet Cortana, etc. but I still keep getting notifications about OneDrive, which I really don’t want. I don’t use any online storage device I just don’t trust them.
