overview

After reading about SP 3, I am still confused about when I can download and install it on my Windows XP Home Edition? Will it be offered through WU on 4/29/08 or later on in the summer? ???
Should I wait just in case there are problems?

We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center.
guess it will be on the 29th as stated ??? ::) ;)

i'm going too!

I most certainly will wait, though many are using the beta release of SP3 so there is some feedback if there are/were any problems.

It is going to be a big update much bigger than I can cope with on dial-up so I will wait for it to come out on CD or get a friend with broadband to download it and burn to CD.

tested XP SP3 RTM (final) with Avast 4.8.1178 … no first sight problems observed

Major Geeks has the final now (RTM?)

Not bad only a 316MB download only a tad over 21 hours on dial-up ;D

I wonder if M$ will offer a free CD like they did with SP2. :-\

only around 4 minutes on my end here to download davidr ;D
(RTM?)
what does that stand for ::) ???

Released To Manufacturers (RTM) or in some cases it could also be Read The Manual (without F*****g this time) ;D ;D ;D

Release To Manufacturing

Ready To Malfunction ? Maybe… ;D

Return To Manufacturer, more likely ???

I see MG has now removed the “Final” notation from this download. ???

The term "release to manufacturing" (RTM) is used by Microsoft and others to indicate when the gold version has been sent to a product manufacturer, in preparation for physical distribution (e.g., DVDs/CDs in retail boxes). RTM can also refer to online distribution, though the term "release to Web" (RTW) is usually used in this context. Typically, RTM happens weeks or months before a public release because of the time needed to produce boxed copies of the product and send them though retail distribution channels.
