Avast conducted a routine update this morning and requested a reboot of my computer. Following this, YouTube has been incredibly slow with the videos pixelated at times.
I have just disabled Avast to check whether it was the cause. It is, YouTube is fine when it’s not active.
I use YouTube and haven’t experienced this issue, however I don’t allow auto program updates so I’m still on 25.2.xxxx and not on avast 25.3.xxxx recently released.
Yes this is 25.3. Tried again this morning and YouTube would barely load. Again though, as soon as I disable the shields control the page works fine. Something is up but not sure if it’s unique to me or more widespread.
have you got any add blockers active as they are getting crafty and somehow turning some off.
ive got abp which somehow youtube are craftely turning off but adblocker ultimate is till running ok and blocking the adds.
Same problem here. I’ve tried with and without add blockers and they don’t seem to be the problem and I even tried other browsers. The problem is not isolated to YouTube, it’s just a more obvious there. Internet in general just sucks since the update. Heck, I had to disable the webshield to access this forum! I’m surprised more people aren’t having this problem.
have you got a stand alone vpn?
nord used here and as previously said no issues with youtube.
also which version of avast are you using, free, premium or one.
Thats weard and dont know what to suggest further. ive got nord vpn and add blocker active and youtube loads and plays fine for me and im on premium as well.
hopefully someone else will be along to advise.
I’ve been having an issue with mostly Live Streams on YouTube doing exactly as you say. Running on Firefox, even with uBlock running/not running, it just eventually grinds to a halt. Similar issues with Twitch. Updates to Virus Definitions also have started throttling my CPU and causing YouTube to buffer and games to freeze for a few seconds while the new definitions install. Never was an issue before build 25.3
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
First turning off Avast won’t identify what component could be having any sort of conflict and leave you completely unprotected. Two areas to look at, Web Shield, Network Inspector adding an exception in the Avast settings for the domain (again there is risk involved).
Firefox is my default browser with uMatrix and uBlock Origin Lite without issue on YouTube (don’t use Facebook) and no problems with it. You can lower the levels in these add-ons and or by switching it off on the domain.
Something worth checking. I find that Avast has a habit of turning the VPN on without telling you. This has happened on both my Windows and Android installations. It is particularly annoying with the latter as it then prevents Android Auto running to connect my phone to the car through Bluetooth.
If you had read a few more posts from David on April 9th he said he has downloaded 25.3 and like me have no issues with youtube.
for me also faceache, gmail or any other program has not been affected.
It’s been a nightmare. Looks like the changed how the firewall works and didn’t tell us. I did finally figure out how to set my wifi network as trusted and that made things a little better. YouTube videos still won’t play and my internet connection is constantly being dropped. Pages load slow or hang up. I’ve had Avast for ages but I’m ready to chuck it out and try another anti-virus.
I’m with you on looking for another AV. They better fix this soon. As a temporary fix I have disabled HTTPS Scanning under Web Shield settings. Could be the most important part of the web shield for all I know but I would like to disable as little as possible to keep me running and this seems to work for me.
