Complaint regarding ads in PAID software

Good morning,

I currently have various PAID subscriptions for the following software:

Avast Premium Security
Avast SecureLine VPN

My complaint is that DAILY I am getting pop up ads from you in my APS for other Avast products like Cleanup and Anti-Track, etc. to the point of being just as annoying and harassing as other everyday unwanted ads and I want this to STOP! I paid enough $$ to subscribe to these products so I do not have to deal with incessant advertisements on products I do not need or want and should not have to keep seeing these pop up ads on my desktop! I recently dropped Avast Premium Cleanup as well as BreachGuard because I do not need them or want to pay for more subscriptions and want to know how to cease these daily bothersome (and sometimes “threatening”) pop ups ASAP. I can understand having pop ups to advertise premium apps if someone is using the FREE version of Avast Anti-Virus, but again I am a PAID subscriber for Premium Security and VPN and want these ads to STOP, otherwise I will need to cancel my remaining subscriptions to use a product that if I pay for something that I will not then get inundated with unwanted ads!

Please advise ASAP on how to make these STOP

Thanks and Regards ,
MJ

Please note, however, that in recent months these procedures have not been as effective as before (at least in my case with avast premium).

Even though the full-screen pop-ups have disappeared,…, several times a week a small “1” or “2” appears in red in the premium UI notifications, telling me that I need avast VPN, premium cleanup, breachguard, etc. .

If I ignore them, they disappear for a few days before reappearing. :worried:

This has never been the case in the 10 years that I have been using Premium.

Chris…
What are your Personal Privacy Settings > as Improvement and Offers settings should stop this kind of advert.
Obviously you as a paying customer have more options than my avast free screenshot.

@DavidR

I have already posted my configuration, which you have already read here.

You can see that I have set premium not to receive offers (avast and third parties).

However, in reality, for the past 3 or 4 months, avast has not been taking this into account as you can see in the screenshot

The additional setting with the paid version is that you can avoid being notified of premium upgrades or offers for other avast products… which hasn’t been the case for months.

  • Share your application usage data with avast so that we can offer you upgrades or other products.

Edit:I just went back to the settings page and a new line has appeared since June, concerning personalized discounts on other avast products. I unchecked the box to see if it affects notifications for other products.

Sorry Chris, completely slipped my mind (it was a while ago), but no excuse for my thinking you wouldn’t have already done that.

Good catch Chris. Looks like we may have to check this setting monthly.

Why would Avast re-populate that setting so that we would have to even check to make sure to turn it back off? Again I used to have the whole suite but due to $$ I reduced to just the VPN and the Premium Security and should not be basically “harassed daily” by those “critical alerts to purchase Anti-Track, Premium Cleanup, BreachGuard, etc.” while using a paid product.. Are they that desperate to change a setting without our knowledge back so their ads spam us? Maybe their Scam Guardian should look at that first :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

In any case, even if we check the settings regularly, offers continue to flood in for paid products.

All my boxes are unchecked, and yet this morning for cleanup premium:

Tomorrow it might be for Antitrack, Driver Updater, or VPN…

here we go again!

Bloody crazy, nothing like pissing off your paying customers.

I’m still sitting on Avast 25.5 I didn’t like some of the issues reported in the forums on 25.6 and the total lack of information in the Avast program Update notification post for 25.7s new features and bug fixes.

But worst of all, as is being reported, not honouring the users existing settings.

I could appreciate if there were new functions/features that would impact other functions - Ads in Avast Free most likely had an influence on some switching to the Avast paid product to avoid this nonsense. Only to be dumped on from a great height.

I assume you have checked your settings re New version 25.7 - #24 by Rundvleeskroket

Avast are not nice and sneak in new settings without notice to advertise more products and annoy their users.

Of course I checked it.

For your information, I was the one who mentioned this new setting in this thread 23 days ago.

My last two posts above are precisely to point out that unchecking this box is completely useless.

edit:I also notice that you replied “good catch” at the time.

edit2:Sorry, the response was perhaps intended for DavidR, but his comment undoubtedly relates to this when he mentions the lack of transparency regarding release notes. The introduction of this new parameter without any information is proof of this.

Furthermore, the FAQs have still not been updated with this parameter, which is at least a month old.
