I updated Avast Passwords to Avast Password Manager as advised by Avast, but I don’t see any information regarding Avast Password Manager on my computer and on my mobile app (Avast Password Manager) there are no passwords saved! Any suggestions?!?
Hello user1195, welcome to the community.
What “no passwords saved” means? Did you import data from Avast Passwords into Avast Password Manager?
I updated to Avast Password Manager as recommended, but I do not know how to import the data to my computer or to my iphone.
If you still have Avast Passwords installed, you can initiate migration (data transfer) process from “UPDATE NOW” button. After following procedure you should be able to see Avast Passwords data on Avast Password Manager.
If you want to sync passwords between computer and iPhone, you have to login same Avast Account on both devices.
Thank you for your responses. I did do the update and I tried to follow procedure, but I don’t see anything regarding Avast Passwords data on Avast Password Manager. I don’t see anything at all regarding Avast Password Manager.
A question before i attempt to try this.
once youve exported and it doesnt work does the original password manager still work in the UI
Avast Password Manager is a browser extension, unlike Avast Passwords that was integrated with Avast Antivirus. Did you install extensions into browsers?
Maybe a screenshot will help to confirm we’re on the same page.
I use Mozilla Firefox and when I tried to add the extension, it gave me the following message: “The extension violates Mozilla’s policies and has been disabled. You can enable in settings, but it might be risky”. I think the extension has been added to the Avast browser - Avast passwords is there when I open up the extension tab, but I still have to open Avast to get the passwords, which I won’t be able to do soon because it is being discontinued. There is nothing that I can see that says Avast Password Manager on my computer and again, when I open up Avast Passwords on my iphone, there are no saved passwords.
Yes, my original Avast Passwords still works on my computer, but as the message says - it’s going to be discontinued soon.
Thanks for that info.
The firefox issue with violation happened to me a good few weeks ago but it was just the extention in firefox that was affected.
the orange key on top right was greyed out so i looked in extentions and it was turned off. just switching it back on solved the issue even though i got the violation warning it has stayed on ever since.
BUT that was for the extention only and not the transfer of passwords to web based setup which is what they want us all to do by end of february when they turn the old passwords in UI off.
Luckily i have a backup password manager with Nord vpn pass but it was a nightmare having to transfer and typing out each one as json file in avast extract is not the same for nord.
Hopefully Avast will extend the switch off date until its fully working.
Ive just read the violation.
how i understand it it says avast is breaching due to collecting user data without disclosure, consent or control.
Can Admin or a mod clarify this.
Avast Passwords is restricted for violating Mozilla policies
## Why did this happen?
This extension, theme, or plugin violates Mozilla’s add-on policies.
This add-on violates Mozilla’s add-on policies by collecting user data without disclosure, consent or control.
## What does this mean?
Until the violation is resolved, this add-on won’t be available for download from addons.mozilla.org. If it’s already installed, it will be disabled and users will be informed about the violation. They may choose to enable the add-on again at their own risk.
## How does Mozilla enforce its policies?
When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromise Firefox security, stability, or performance and meet certain criteria, the software may be blocked or restricted from general use. For more information, please read this support article.
I also have a backup password manager, but I would also like to continue using Avast. Still don’t know how to transfer any of my Avast passwords to their new Avast Password Manager…
I will have a go in the next couple of days to transfer.
I also much prefer avast password manager the best.
Nord is ok but I hated dashlane so deleted that years ago.
So how are you going to transfer? I still don’t know an easy way to transfer everything over from the old Avast Passwords to the new Avast Password Manager.
I’m guessing I will have to do it the same way as everyone else by clicking that tab on the message and see if it fails like everyone else is reporting.
Hopefully Avast will do something to fix this… Thank you for all your help and suggestions.
@user1195
Avast Password Manager is a different extension from Avast Passwords. You can install it from here:
Thank you!
ok, so ive done it…did it work, yes-----do i like it no.
no errors for me but a bit of a palava.
password is a pain already. needs minimum 12 caracters A1!a?/ and locks itself within 3 minutes of webpage being closed.
Im guessing some of the other posts with errors may not have installed the extention app but it was straight forward following the instructions and it saving the json export file for 60 minutes then auto delete. also able to download a recovery code but thats now behind the password lock
ive got a secure vault but remembering the password for that is almost impossible as 18 carecters long. think the easiest way for me now is to use the nord manager as i can remember the password to log into that.
I for one will be sad to see the original Avast password manager removed as i trust that much more than i do web based brouser extentions.
sorry but i should of taken screen shots every step of the way but i was expecting it to fail so i didnt bother.
I think Avast password manager is working as an extension in my Firefox browser - it’s a bit confusing so I’m not sure and I haven’t had time to mess around with it. I’ll keep you posted. Why would Avast make changes to something that’s uncomplicated and works!
